Mandarin Hotel
Boylston Street, Boston
As part of a mixed-use project in the Prudential Center neighborhood of Boston, the luxury hotel-chain Mandarin Oriental is developing a new $200 million 168 room luxury hotel. The J. Derenzo Company (JDC) is completing all site development and excavation work at the site for the general contractor, Suffolk Construction.
JDC’s work was completed along busy Boylston Street within the Prudential complex. The foundation system for the new hotel was excavated through an existing parking garage and pile caps, requiring the removal of over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete. Soil mix walls were constructed to a depth of 60-feet below street level, with an advanced bracing system needed to support Boylston Street during construction. Boston Environmental and Trucking Corporation (BET) excavated and provided off site disposal for over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete and over 45,000 cubic yards of contaminated soils from the project.
